Did God create us unable to keep his law?

Answer

No, but because of the disobedience of Adam & Eve, we are all born in sin and guilt, unable to keep God’s law.

“Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.” – Romans 5:12

Outline for lesson

  1. Open in prayer Thank You for loving us and sending Your son Jesus to save us.
  2. Review Activity: Write each catechism question and answers on an index card. One card per Q&A.  Draw a Hashtag (#) at the bottom. Help the kids comment or summarize the question and create a hashtag at the bottom of each Q & A. 
    Example Question 2: 
    Question: What is God?
    Answer: God is the creator of everyone and everything.

  3. Introduction: play a word association game. The children must say a word that is directly related to the previous word. Words to use: Adam, Eve, Sin, Good, Fall, Rejection, Rule, Serpent. These words relate to the entry of sin into the world. Second, introduce question & answer 14.  Tell them this lesson will help us learn if God made humans powerless to obey his laws or if something happened that affected people’s ability to keep God’s law perfectly.
  4. Read:
    Romans 5: 12-21. After reading the verses ask:
    Who sinned and allowed it to enter the world? Adam
    What did sin bring? Death
    Who did sin spread to? Everyone
    Did people sin before the law was given? Yes, it wasn’t counted as sin because there wasn’t yet any law.
    Adam is a symbol or representation of who? Christ, who was yet to come
    How many people did it take to bring sin into the world? one, Adam.
    Who was God’s gift to remove sin? Jesus
    If you receive Jesus as your savior what will happen to you? You will live in triumph over sin and death. It will also bring a right relationship with you and God.
  5. Recite: Question & answer 14 and memory verse.
